Who requires Hunter Education in British Columbia?

BC’s hunter safety training education is The Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Education (CORE) program. The CORE program is offered through a partnership agreement with the Provincial Government and the British Columbia Wildlife Federation (BCWF). The successful completion of the program is required for B.C. residents age 10 or older who wish to obtain a BC Fish & Wildlife ID and hunting credentials, both of which are required to get a B.C resident hunting licence.

Residents

All resident hunters must have a Fish & Wildlife ID (FWID) and hunting credentials.  Residency and hunting credentials prove you’re qualified to hunt in British Columbia. They’re displayed on your Fish & Wildlife ID (FWID) profile. Resident hunters are required to prove they are a resident of British Columbia every 3 years. For further information:

Non-Residents

Non-resident hunters will need a Fish & Wildlife ID (FWID) to apply for a non-resident hunting license and/or to buy species license's. The type of residency credential determines what type of license you may qualify for and associated fees. For further information:

Minimum Age Requirements

  • There is no minimum age to take the CORE course (The course is designed for a 12-year-old reading level).
  • After completing the CORE course, you will need to obtain your Fish & Wildlife ID (FWID) before you can purchase hunting licences. You must be at least 10 years old to obtain a FWID.
